Fallback Routing: What Happens When the First Route Fails

A SmartLink earns its value when traffic still reaches an eligible destination after the preferred route becomes unavailable.

01 / Operational context

Fallback is part of the primary architecture

It should not be added after an outage. Every route group needs a defined alternative for caps, pauses, GEO gaps and technical failures.

02 / Operational context

Fallback order should remain eligible

The second-best historical performer is not useful if it does not accept the user country or traffic type.

03 / Operational context

Zero-route events must be visible

If no destination is eligible, the system should log the condition so coverage can be improved rather than hiding the loss.

System components

What the operating model includes.

01

Cap fallback

Move traffic after daily or total limits fill.

02

Pause fallback

Replace a temporarily disabled destination.

03

GEO fallback

Choose another route supporting the country.

04

Device fallback

Avoid incompatible device flows.

05

Error fallback

Handle unavailable or failing URLs.

06

Default route

Use a broad eligible destination as the last option.

Launch checklist

What to validate before volume increases.

Define at least one alternative per route group
Test cap exhaustion
Monitor redirect errors
Track zero-route rate
Review broad defaults for quality
Do not route restricted traffic into a fallback
Operational principle

SmartLink routing does not replace transparent traffic acquisition, stable tracking or partner communication. It makes those inputs more useful by connecting them to eligible dating inventory.

Bring us your traffic. We’ll bring the routing.

Tell us the source, GEO mix and approximate monthly volume. The same application endpoint records the page that generated the request, so topic-level lead attribution remains available.
